The amazing Comey memory

When testifying before Congress Comey was constantly saying he didn't remember things.

Comey made it clear he had little knowledge and few memories of the whole investigation into Trump which is like Eliot Ness saying he didn't remember much about crime in Chicago.

But when asked by a Democrat if the FBI or DOJ had ever investigated Trump for political purposes Comey responded:

Mr. Comey. I not only don’t believe it, I know it not to be true.
Mr. Deutch. I’m sorry, would you repeat that?
Mr. Comey. I know it not to be true. I know that we never investigated the Trump campaign for political purposes.
This answer is interesting for several reasons. First it's in complete contrast to his claim to remember nothing about the Trump investigation. If in fact he can't remember many of the details about the investigation how can he know for sure there was no political motivation especially in light of the fact that we now know that two key participants were texting each other about how much they hated Trump?
Second while we can suppose that Comey should know what was going on in the FBI since he was running it, though his continual claims of ignorance related to the Trump investigation makes that dubious, there is no way he could have known everything that DOJ was doing.  Yet Comey made a crystal clear definitive statement about not only what the FBI had done but about what the DOJ had done.
Third given that Comey is now calling for everyone to oppose Trump's reelection and was the guy who let Hillary walk on a clear felony it's unclear how he can even claim that he wasn't politically motivated.
Apparently Comey has a case of the #FakeNews media memory; he only remembers things that help Democrats, even if those things never occurred, and he forgets everything that helps Republicans.
