Clearly the modern Democrats hate Catholics too because if they didn't they wouldn't be working hard to force nuns to participate in abortions and supplying birth control.
But I can hear you saying the Democrats support immigration, legal and illegal.
The point is which immigrants we're talking about. Back when the Know Nothing party was strong the immigrants were from Ireland and Germany. They came expecting no welfare and they came legally to a country that needed more people. They were hard working and as law abiding as anyone else.
Back in 1965 when Teddy Kennedy laid out the road map for changing America to get the Democrats elected forever he specifically reduced immigration from Europe and increased it from Third World countries. That is he rejected the Irish and the Germans just like the Know Nothings did.
But why do Democrats favor the illegals so much? The answer is that illegals tend to be poorly educated and they don't speak English.
Anyone who isn't eager for a handout or who actually thinks about policies is unlikely to vote Democrat. Rather the Democrats need emotionally driven informationally destitute voters whom they, using the lying #FakeNews media, can con into supporting Democrats.
Which leads us to the real reason that the modern Democrats are "know nothings"; when they speak they utter such amazingly incorrect things that it's clear that it's not just that they're trying to con the voters it's that the Democrat politicians themselves have no idea of the truth.
We see that in the oft repeated attacks on "assault weapons" where the Democrats have no idea that there is a difference between a fully automatic military weapon and a gun that fires once every time you pull the trigger.
But the latest Democrat shining star, miss socialism USA, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez--possible descendent of the Cortez who treated indigenous people horribly-- just recently gave us another example of the absolute lack of knowledge and understanding that is so typical of Democrats.
She declared that we could pay for her obscenely expensive medicare for all program by eliminating the $21 trillion in Pentagon fraud.
The problem is that in the entire history of America we've only spent about $18 trillion on defense. The article she cited was talking about accounting issues where the same dollars could be counted multiple times but which didn't actually consist of dollars that were wasted or misspent. The issue raised by the article, which Ocasio-Cortez missed, was that bad bookkeeping at the Pentagon made military spending less transparent than it could be.
Ocasio-Cortez either lied through her teeth, which is possible but unlikely, or she simply had no understanding of the real size of the military budget because if she did, and she is of at least average intelligence, there is no way she could have thought that the Pentagon could have more fraud than its entire budget for all of history.
Back during the nuclear freeze movement in a debate a nuclear freeze advocate declared that the Hewlett Packard company in California got $500 billion each year to work on nuclear weapons. He then went on to explain how that money could be better used. The problem was that at that time the entire Pentagon budget was less than $300 billion.
This amazing lack of basic knowledge on a subject and/or the inability to do simple math/logic is the hallmark of all Democrat's on their key policies.
It's scientifically proven and obvious that the unborn are human beings in an early stage of development but Democrats reject that as they reject the idea that a man can't become a woman through drugs and plastic surgery.
Even though socialism has been tried and failed over and over Democrats blissfully assume that if they run the show it will be different which is highly illogical as a certain Vulcan would say.
In the end the modern Democrats are the Know Nothing party precisely because all of their policies are based on ignorance of facts and history.
