Leftist Big Lies: Equal pay edition.

Leftists constantly complain that women get paid less than men.  They're right that women get paid less than men.

What the left misses is that women get paid less than men because they work fewer hours, work less overtime, avoid unpleasant or dangerous jobs that pay more, etc.  When those factors are corrected for women make as much money as men.

For example the men work 8.05 hours a day compared to 7.24 hours a day for women.  Also women tend to choose lower paying jobs.  Child day care workers have a mean annual wage of $23,760 and 94% of them are women while loggers earn $42,310 a year and 97.1% of loggers are men.

A recent study from the "Institute for Women's Policy Research" claimed that women make only half of what men make. They came to that conclusion by simply comparing the average wages of all men and women who worked any amount of time over a 4 year period. So a housewife who worked 10 hours was mixed in with men who worked two jobs.  Needless to say the results are meaningless.

Further it's clear that what the study authors did was start with their conclusion--women are discriminated against by everyone but pornographers--and crunched the numbers until they found a calculation that "proved that point".  An unbiased scientist would do everything possible to compare apples to apples and correct for factors like fewer hours worked by women but this "study" does nothing of the sort.

But the reality hasn't changed; women get paid the same for the same work.

In fact Harvard has just released a study that shows that for workers at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority women's lower wages are entirely accounted for by women's choices such as avoiding overtime and taking more unpaid leave.

Women in America make less money than men but then around 90% of workplace fatalities are men and since high risk usually equates to high pay in the US it's not surprising that men make more money.
