The Senate does the right thing: No reason to redo the Democrats failed effort

The Democrats had complete control of the impeachment hearings in the House.

They conducted secret hearings to decide which witnesses were sufficiently antiTrump to be allowed to testify in public.

They denied, and continue to deny, Trump and we the people access to some of the secret testimony; the part that shows Trump was innocent.

They refused to let Trump's lawyers participate.

They refused to let Republicans call witnesses that they, the Democrats, didn't like.

They refused to look into whether or not it was reasonable to investigate what appeared to be obvious corruption by Joe Biden.

They lied about what Trump said.

They impeached Trump even though they admitted he hadn't committed any crimes.

They declared that Trump exercising his constitutional rights was an impeachable offense.

They failed to call witnesses that they later claimed were essential to their case which means that when they voted for impeachment they didn't think there was sufficient evidence that Trump was guilty of what they were charging him with.

They didn't follow the Constitution in terms of asking the Courts if Trump's claims about executive privilege were valid.  In doing so they simply declared that any President who doesn't do what Congress wants should be impeached. That Obama did the same thing as Trump and they supported him for doing so didn't seem to bother them.

Their first article of impeachment was so broad that any President doing anything that was good for the country and which helped his chances of being reelected could be impeached.

Yet despite all this they condemn the Senate for refusing to call the witnesses that they, the House Democrats, also refused to call.  How can House managers call what the Senate did to be a monstrous offense against justice when the Senate did what the House did?

Interestingly the raw hatred and lust for power demonstrated by the Democrats is what ensured that no witnesses would be called. Even "moderate" Republicans saw that this wasn't a sincere effort to punish a President for a crime.  As even the "moderate" Republicans recognized, except for Romney and Collins--she may have needed to act stupid to get reelected--, this impeachment was nothing more than a massive act of election interference.

When Elizabeth Warren attacked Justice Roberts she ensured that at least one moderate Republican Senator would vote against witnesses.

When Schiff lied repeatedly he ensured that Republicans, no matter what their opinion of Trump, would not turn against Trump.

When Nadler called the Senate Republican's traitors for not doing what he wanted them to do it ensured that no sane Republican would vote for what he wanted.

It's time to end this sham and move on.
