Trump starts Operation Warp Speed to develop a China virus vaccine

After the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor the massive industrial might of American was turned from making consumer goods to making tanks and planes.

Trump has announced an obviously ambitious program, on the order of the Manhattan Project which developed the first nuclear warhead, to produce a vaccine for COVID19.  Perhaps due to the recent standing up of the Space Force the program is called "Operation Warp Speed".

Historically the chances of delivering hundreds of millions of vaccine doses by the end of the year would have been small due to the technology used to produce the vaccines. However new technologies have been developed that can drastically reduce that time.

In addition by effectively directing the best and the brightest private sector specialists and providing them with unlimited resources we can expect great things.

Dr. Moncef Slaui is heading the program and he's developed 14 new vaccines in the last 10 years while working in the private sector.  That bodes will for the programs chances of success.

The fact that whomever does develop a vaccine will make a fortune is another reason to have hope that the private sector, uninhibited by the bureaucratic malaise of organizations like the CDC, will deliver a vaccine in record time.
