Obama hypocrisy: Obama pardoned a General for lying to the FBI edition

Heres an interesting tidbit you won't be hearing from the #FakeNews media.

Back in 2017 outgoing President Obama pardoned General Cartwright, a man who Obama had picked to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for lying to the FBI.

The similarities to the Flynn case are amazing:

  • Cartwright was originally suspected of illegally leaking classified information to the press but that charge was never filed. But the leak did occur so a crime was committed.
  • Flynn was supposedly suspected of colluding with Russia but unlike the Cartwright case there was no evidence of any crime
  • Cartwright pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about when and where he talked to certain individuals.
  • Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about what he said in a conversation with the Russian Ambassador after prosecutors threatened to go after his son.

But there are differences too:

  • There was an actual investigation that justified the interview with Cartwright.
  • There was no actual investigation that justified interviewing Flynn

  • We don't know if Cartwright was coerced into pleading guilty
  • We now know based on FBI/DOJ documents that Flynn was coerced

  • We don't know if the prosecutors hid evidence that showed Cartwright was innocent
  • We do know that the prosecutors hid from Flynn and the Court evidence that conclusively proved that Flynn was innocent--including the fact that in the interview Flynn said he didn't remember talking about sanctions but that he could  have done so which means that Flynn didn't lie to the FBI

  • The prosecutor didn't withdraw from the Cartwright case
  • The prosecutor has withdrawn from the Flynn case

  • The DOJ never argued that because of prosecutorial misconduct and the lack of a basis for the interview that the charges against Cartwright should be dropped
  • The DOJ is stating that not only didn't Flynn commit a crime but that the prosecutors broke the law by concealing critical evidence from both Flynn and the courts and hence the charges against Flynn should be dropped as they would for anyone in Flynn's situation

Despite all this Obama is saying that not continuing to railroad Flynn is a danger to the rule of law.

Apparently in Obama's mind treating defendants he doesn't like the same as how defendants he does like is a danger to the rule of law.

If DOJ discovered massive prosecutorial misconduct and the lack of evidence of any actual crime in the prosecution of a child rapist or serial killer the charges would be dropped instantly but apparently the "crime" of being associated with Trump removes the Constitutional rights to a fair trial from people.
