Who should get a check? Not everyone.

Due to the drastic government response to the COVID19 crisis many Americans are out of work through no fault of their own.

As one of the possible solutions to that problem people are talking about sending checks to Americans.

That's a good idea but only if handled responsibly.

Bernie Sanders demonstrates an irresponsible approach:

If by persons Bernie means adults that would result in families having a $48,000 a year income which is way beyond helping them survive a short term crisis.  If he's including kids a family of 4 would have a $96,000 a year income.

These numbers are telling when one realizes the median household income in the US was $62,626 in 2018.  Essentially Bernie wants people to live better off taxpayers dollars than they would off their own hard work.  Clearly that's a bad idea.

Dan Crenshaw has pointed out another problem with the "checks for all" concept.  As a Congressman he makes $174k a year and he's going to be paid as are all government employees who won't be laid off no matter what unlike the vast majority of American taxpayers.  Hence he certainly doesn't need a check.

Similarly those whose income isn't impacted because they aren't confined to their homes or because they can work from home shouldn't get a check.

Retired people whose pensions/social security checks are unaffected don't need help now. However if the market stays down long they may need help since their savings have been impacted.

But by all means those who can't work because of how we're fighting the pandemic do deserve help.

Contractors, factory workers, and others  who can't work because they can't leave their homes and they can't work from home are suffering and as fellow Americans they deserve our help.

Similarly restaurant and store workers who are being laid off because no one is going out deserve our help.

But people in those jobs who aren't being impacted, contractors who aren't confined to their homes for example, don't.

Democrats and leftists are always for unconditional aid because they think it will buy them votes.  Fiscally responsible conservatives are all for deficit spending in a time of crisis to help their fellow Americans but only those Americans who need help.
