The only thing we have to fear is hoarding

People wanting to get a lifetime's supply of toilet paper is understandable but wrong.

Given that for the vast majority of people who actually sustain our food production/delivery/sales system are under 60 and hence not going to die from COVID19 there is every reason to believe that stores will be open and well stocked.

After all the food chain has never collapsed during even a very bad flu season; which is what this is for young people.

Unless of course some people decide to shop for 3.  When a three week lockdown starts if some people buy enough food for the entire 21 days that's like they were 3 people buying their weekly groceries.

So if 10% of the population decides to hoard that's equivalent to a sudden population increase of 20%.

The food system isn't size to sustain a huge instantaneous increase in the population so there will be shortages which in turn will convince more people to shop for 3.

Hence if you're a patriotic American who cares about your neighbors just get what you need for now when you shop and we'll all make it through this just fine.
