Hence Trump cancelling an air strike over concerned about the number of Iranians that would die is nothing like Obama's having declared that if Assad in Syria used chemical weapons against civilians there would be consequences and then Obama doing nothing when Syria did just that.
Instead Trump has defined a red line, don't kill even one American, and taken non-lethal actions against Iranian leadership. New financial regulations will cut the mad mullah's who run Iran off from billions of dollars in resources. A cyber attack against the Iranian military has reduced their ability to deal with an American strike in the future.
All in all the Iranians are going to feel real pain for their attack on our drone. Additionally Trump not running off to war shows we the people and the leaders of foreign governments that all the lies peddled by the #FakeNews media about Trump being a mentally unstable warmonger are in fact lies.
Americans are tired of our warriors dying in the Middle East because the radical Muslims there think they have the god given right to kill any and all non-Muslims. If Trump succeeds with a non-violent retaliation then we'll avoid losing more Americans.
If his non-violent responses don't work and Iran kills Americans then most Americans will realize that force, and the death of Americans and Iranians, will be necessary.
