It turns out the story was a complete lie. The source that the Daily Beast relied on said the following:
"When asked who covered the tab, the pub owner replied that she wasn’t certain who paid it, adding that the sons didn’t carry around cash on them.
“We were told it’d be all sorted later so there’s no problem,” Kennedy said."
From that it's clear that the pub owners weren't worried about getting paid. And it turns out that the pub owner explained that they were in fact paid.
But the clear evidence of the bias and the willingness to lie of the #FakeNews media is that no honest unbiased reading of the source the Daily Beast was using could indicate that the pub owner was concerned that he wouldn't get paid.
Real businesses are quite used to having big tabs paid a bit after they're incurred so the Daily Beast's conclusion was really nothing more than a fabrication.
