Ocasio-Cortez says terrorism by Muslims isn't common

While most people are talking about how Ocasio-Cortez displayed her lack of knowledge about the legal technicalities related to charging terrorists the real story is her lack of understanding about the severity of Nazi violence in America.

Ocasio-Cortez kept complaining that Nazi's who commit domestic terrorist attacks aren't charged with domestic terrorism while American Muslims are despite being repeatedly told that there is no such crime as domestic terrorism.  In fact Americans who commit terrorist acts due to inspiration from a foreign terrorist organization such as Al-Qaeda are charged as "homegrown violent extremists". The problem is that while Muslims do say they were inspired by foreign groups there has never been a case of an American Nazi having such an affiliation.

Ocasio-Cortez seemed unable, or perhaps was unwilling, to understand that the difference in how people are charged has nothing to do with their religion or the basis for their hatred of America but only on whether or not they have affiliated themselves with a foreign terrorist organization.

But the real story is that Ocasio-Cortez was all upset about Nazi violence in America even though there are no Nazi incidents on par with the Muslim terrorist attacks she cited; the attack on the gay Pulse nightclub and the San Bernardino shootings.

Like most if not all Democrats she's constantly on the look for ways to excuse or minimize the crimes of radical Muslims while inflating the crimes of white supremacists and Nazi's.

We all agree that any crimes by Nazis are bad and they should be punished under the law.  Further not charging Nazi's under laws that don't apply to them isn't letting them off the hook as Ocasio-Cortez was implying.  If a Nazi shoots a bunch of people he will be convicted of multiple charges of murder just like a Muslim.  But the Muslim faces extra charges if they're inspired by, which means they have voluntarily affiliated themselves with, a foreign terrorist organization.

To see why this makes sense let's look at a hypothetical set of crimes during the liberation of Iraq.  If one man sabotaged a tank because his union was striking against the tank company and another did so out of a desire to kill American soldiers because he wanted Iraq to win it's clear that the natures of their crimes are significantly different.

Democrats recognize this because they're constantly talking about "hate" crimes where the motivation of the perpetrator is what matters.

But of course "hate" crimes are far more unfairly applied than any antiterrorist laws are.  If a white man kills a Black man because the white man is a racist he's charged with a "hate" crime. But odds are if a Black man kills a white man because he hates white men he won't be charged with a "hate" crime.

The Left even rationalizes this by saying that because Blacks are a minority they can't be racist. Now that's an unfair application of the law. The fact that Blacks are a minority does not mean that individual Blacks can't hate white people and act on that hatred.

Effectively Ocasio-Cortez's argument says that "hate" crimes are bogus and unfair because they punish people for what they think which is precisely what prosecuting Americans who commit terrorism in service of a foreign cause differently than American terrorists not in service of a foreign group does.

While Ocasio-Cortez will deny it the reality is that she wasn't trying to send the message that Nazis get away with it she was trying to tell us that Muslims are over prosecuted for their crimes that are inspired by foreign terrorist organizations. She also wanted to spread the Big Lie that it's non-Muslims who are the biggest terrorist threat.

The truth is that Nazi crimes in America are on par with the crimes of Antifa, a group that most Democrats refuse to condemn, not mass murdering Muslim terrorists.
