NYT admits that the Deep State exists

A recent NYT article said:

"Pentagon and intelligence officials described broad hesitation to go into detail with Mr. Trump about operations against Russia for concern over his reaction — and the possibility that he might countermand it or discuss it with foreign officials, as he did in 2017 when he mentioned a sensitive operation in Syria to the Russian foreign minister."

The Pentagon and the Intelligence Community(IC) work for the President.  So for them to say that they concealed programs, or even contemplated concealing programs, from the President because he, their boss, might want to end them is nothing short of a blatant rejection of the whole concept of democracy. By doing so those officials were saying that they don't have to answer to we the people; that their power is greater than the voters power.

It's a very fascist perspective but one that's all to common on the left these days.

Historically presidents have often exposed highly classified programs for a variety of reasons.  LBJ revealed the SR-71 spy plane to boost his credentials and Jimmy Carter revealed the stealth fighter to help get reelected.

JFK provided the Soviet Union with highly classified technology that made their nuclear weapons much safer because he thought that was better than Soviet nukes going off unexpectedly.

We elect our presidents to make those sort of calls.  If Trump did reveal a sensitive operation there could have been a very good reason for it; such as getting the Russians to do something in return or to save Russian lives and cause the Russians to view the US more favorably.

If the anonymous sources are referring to the fact that Trump supposedly gave the Russians information about a secret Israeli operation then the reason for him sharing is clear. The operation discovered that Islamic extremists were going to use laptops to blow up planes.  The US had unilaterally announced limitations of what electronics were allowed on flights to the US from the Middle East and everyone was asking why. By revealing the INTEL to the Russian's he probably got Russian support for the electronics ban without revealing to the entire world what had happened.

What's interesting about that case is that Vanity Fair revealed the secret operation to the entire world. According to the left that was ok but Trump sharing it with senior Russian leadership was horrible.

Irrespective of whether or not Trump did leak anything and irrespective of whether such a leak was for the good of the United States what's really amazing is that in the same article government officials who were leaking to the press, and hence to the whole world, a highly classified US cyber war program were saying that they didn't want to share information with the president because he might leak it.

Hence the NYT's anonymous sources are apparently comfortable with leaking highly classified programs to the NYT, and hence to the entire world including the Russians, but not with the president we the people elected deciding if a highly controlled interaction with the Russians was worth it.

The article also says this:

"Officials at the National Security Council also declined to comment but said they had no national security concerns about the details of The New York Times’s reporting about the targeting of the Russian grid, perhaps an indication that some of the intrusions were intended to be noticed by the Russians."

This is literally insane and can only be explained by the idea that the intent is to hurt Trump by indicating he's a loose canon who's supporting offensive cyber operations against an adversary with thousands of nuclear weapons.

Can anyone who has ever worked with the IC imagine that they'd say that revealing that we have planted hidden code in Russian power plants would have no impact on national security?

Even if there is no such program merely saying there is will make the Russians increase their cyber security efforts and make it that much harder for the US to attack that sector in the future.

If the IC wanted the Russians to know about the code they could have revealed it in any number of ways which didn't involve an NYT story.

Whatever the truth can be the fact that government officials believe that they can lie to the President so that he is unable to control what they're doing is clear proof that a Deep State, unelected government bureaucrats who believe themselves to have the authority to control what the government does, exists.
