Two months ago the rich white Democrats who run Minneapolis voted to eliminate the police department because a few cops in their department allegedly killed George Floyd.
I'm so old I can remember learning about how Democrat Harry Truman, when President, says "the buck stops here". Apparently now when city leadership mismanages the police department so that bad cops are allowed to stay on the force the buck stops with the good honest cops who will be fired in order to avoid the Democrats who are in charge having to accept responsibility for their own actions.
This is a great example of how rich white Democrats live in a fantasy world. They voted to eliminate the police department and they didn't think that would reduce the quality of policing between now and when they actually finish getting rid of the police department.
In the real world people know that if they're company is going out of business they'll do their jobs but they won't take chances, they won't work unpaid over time, and their minds will be elsewhere, namely on what job they can get to feed their families.
Further the Minneapolis cops know that if they make anything that looks like a mistake their bosses will blame them and throw them to the wolves.
It may be that the cops killed George Floyd but as of now the official autopsy says that he died of a self inflicted drug overdose and that the cops didn't choke him; he couldn't breath because he had 2 times the lethal dose of fentanyl in his blood and that makes breathing hard. No one, not even cops, want politicians to white wash criminal misconduct by the police but if the Nicholas Sandman incident taught us anything it's not to rush to judgement based on a one point of view video.
Everyone is for a complete and detailed investigation. No one minds politicians saying that things look bad for the officers involved.
What justice and rule of law, vs lynching, is about is not saying that the officers are guilty before the tox screen is back.
But the cops in Minneapolis got the message if civilians die because you don't police proactively it's ok but if you make a mistake you will lose not only your job but your freedom. In that environment is it any wonder that the cops aren't taking any chances?
Of course the Minneapolis Democrats drove the message home by allowing massive rioting and the destruction of Black neighborhoods allegedly as protests against the decisions made by a few cops. Since the vast majority of Blacks in Minneapolis didn't riot and didn't approve of their neighborhoods being torched the message the cops got is don't hassle violent people who are allegedly supporting Democrat objectives.
But now, a travesty that only Democrats can produce, those same rich white Democrats who run Minneapolis hauled the Black police chief, Medaria Arrando, before them to berate him for rising crime in Minneapolis.
For some reason Democrats are shocked that after allowing rioting and bad mouthing cops more people have been murdered to date in Minneapolis than in all of last year. Property crimes and arsons are increasing too.
But then the Democrats taking $1M out of the police budget and sending it over to hire "violence interrupters" couldn't possibly be part of the problem. Nor can the fact that twice as many cops have left or taken leaves of absence as is normal; after all since the problem is cops having 100 fewer of them should make things better right?
The basic problem is simple. Rich white Democrats live in safe neighborhoods where if the cops disappeared no one would notice. But Blacks and other people who live in unsafe neighborhoods know that the only thing between them and a bullet isn't "violence interrupters" but cops with guns. Too bad those rich white Democrats don't talk to the 82% of Blacks who either want the current level or more policing in their neighborhoods.
