The real South Dakota story: No Virginia the Republican Governor didn't do anything wrong

The left is having a hissy fit over the fact that the Republican governor of South Dakota, a woman, hasn't forced people to stay at home.

That's because a massive factory in the state suddenly found that less than 10% of its workers have the China virus.

The #FakeNews media, led as usual by the Washington Post, is saying that clearly Governor Noem should have shut down all businesses.

There are numerous problems with that reasoning.  First is that the federal government has declared that the factory, which produces 18 million servings of pork a day, an essential business so that even if Noem had shut down businesses and financially crippled the people of her state that factor would have stayed open.

The second problem is that Noem put in place lots of guidance for people to intelligently self quarantine and self isolate which is probably why only 6 South Dakotans have died due to the virus while more than 10,000 have died in New York.  Oddly the same people attacking Noem are praising Cuomo the governor of New York.

While it's true that the insanely high population density of NYC is very different than the very low population density of South Dakota it's also true that ignoring that difference in order to condemn Noem is intellectually dishonest.

Further the factory took dramatic steps to detect and contain any infection.  The Smithfield factory teamed with two hospitals and everyone was questioned and had their temperature taken when they entered and left the facility.  Anyone who showed any relevant symptoms was tested for the virus.

Hard to see any stronger response than that other than shutting the plant down and ensuring that Americans face a shortage of food.

But truth has never been an impediment to the Washington Post lying to help Democrats.
