They had an opportunity to buy 16,000 ventilators 5 years ago but instead put nearly three times the money that would have cost into "economic development" which is highly prone to cronyism.
Similarly reducing what Medicare pays doctors and hospitals has led to a sever shortage of medical facilities in New York.
Meanwhile instead of prepping New York for a potential pandemic Democrats concentrated on issues like letting criminals back on the streets without bail so that they could commit more crimes, banning plastic bags, and alternative energy schemes.
Instead of buying ventilators and prepping for the pandemic that Democrats now say they saw coming NY spent $30M on college tuition for illegal aliens.
Even now leftists in New York are attacking a Christian group which has set up a hospital in New York city's Central Park. The volunteers there are risking their lives to help those who are suffering but since the group doesn't support the redefinition of marriage Democrats like NYC mayor de Blasio are "concerned".
Clearly Democrats are willing to let you die rather than tolerate a diversity of opinions on what marriage is.
Of course historically New York has also punished people who get sick. There's a 9.6% surcharge on employers who provide health insurance coverage for their workers. That brings in about $5B a year--exceeded only by income and sales tax as a revenue source for the state.
Does this mean that Cuomo is a monster?
No.
He's done what he's done because he never really thought that New York would need thousands of ventilators. He simply acted as though there would be no rainy day.
That's not monstrous or evil. However we need to remember this when the Democrat's like Adam Schiff call for a "non-partisan" investigation into our coronavirus response.
Have no doubt that even now the top priority of many Democrats is weaponizing your suffering to attack Trump so that Joe Biden, who called Trump's China travel ban hysterical xenophobia, becomes our president.
