They did so because to get the foie gras ducks are force fed during the last 3 weeks of their lives which Democrats deem to be cruel; although apparently killing the ducks isn't considered cruel.
The fact that Democrats believe that instead of convincing people not to eat products that they, the Democrats don't like, they have the right to simply ban those products shows the tyrannical nature of Democrats.
But interestingly their actions are going to hurt immigrants, many of them probably illegal immigrants.
It turns out that foie gras is not that popular a product and is primarily produced by two farms in one of New York states poorest counties. There 400 workers, most of whom don't speak English, are now wondering where they will go if the farms go out of business.
This is like the "luxury" tax on things like yachts that Democrats have supported in the past. It's great virtue signaling but both measures ignore the fact that one of the ways that the wealthy spread their money around is by buying things; the production of which means paychecks for Americans.
Democrats only want the rich to share by paying higher taxes.
Why? Because ever tax dollar is another tax dollar that Democrats can use to buy votes and reward their supporters. Every penny that comes from a "luxury" tax is a penny that doesn't go to hard working Americans but does go to Democrat politicians who use it not to improve the country but to increase their power.
In this case Democrats were willing to forego that money, they didn't propose to put a huge tax on foie gras, but they clearly couldn't care less about the Americans who will lose their jobs as a result.
Once again it's clear, as it's clear when Democrats ignore the mass shooting of Blacks in Democrat run cities, that all that matters to Democrats is power; they don't care about us at all.
