That's because Gosnell's murders occurred as a result of failed abortions; he was incompetent so the intended victim often managed to escape her mothers womb while still alive so Gosnell had to murder many born alive children by cutting their spines in two.
Gosnell's crimes escaped notice because under a Republican pro-abortion governor officials decided that inspecting abortion clinics would be “putting a barrier up to women”. Which means that those officials thought that abortion clinics would fail those health inspections; if they'd pass then they'd stay open and there would be no "barrier" to women having their unborn daughters killed.
So under a "pro-choice" governor officials decided it was more important for women to be able to kill their unborn daughters than making sure that those abortions were safe. Apparently the officials didn't care if abortion clinics had problems that would put women at risk, that's why all other medical facilities are inspected--that's why hot dog stands are inspected--; their major concern was that women not have their access to abortion limited.
The only reason that Gosnell's killing spree was detected was that his facility was raided as part of an investigation into his selling drugs illegally. When the officers entered the facility they found a flea infested cat wandering around, cat feces on the floor, and urine stained walls as well as poorly maintained surgical equipment.
The police were so shocked by the horrors that they found that an investigation into Gosnell's practice was finally started.
The Grand Jury that indicted him wanted to indict him for hundreds of murders but political maneuvering squashed that--the police didn't want their murder rate to spike-- and he was only charged with 3 murders. Here's what the Grand Jury report said:
"Over the years, there were hundreds of “snippings.” Sometimes, if Gosnell was unavailable, the “snipping” was done by one of his fake doctors, or even by one of the administrative staff,"
It's not surprising that a "Doctor" who specializes in abortion would be comfortable with killing the recently born; after all he was trying to kill the exact same girl just minutes before she managed to be born alive. As a medical professional Gosnell knew that there was nothing magical that happened between his attempt to kill an unborn woman to be and a few seconds later when she lay on the table fully born.
Further he knew that science unequivocally states that human life begins at conception. We all learn this in biology class where we're taught that what makes each of us unique is our DNA and that at the moment of conception a new human being with unique DNA comes into being.

It shouldn't be a shock therefore that a man who made his living killing what he knew from a purely scientific perspective weren't blobs of cells or part of a woman's body but were instead human beings would become complacent with the idea of his right to kill people.
Yet instead of condemning Gosnell the left wing is attacking the movie; when they're not ignoring it that is.
Opening in only 750 theaters Gosnell the movie did amazingly well for an independent crowd funded film by finishing in the top 10 films at the box office. Yet movie reviewers are staying strangely silent about what would be a major story if the topic of the film were different; say if it was one of Michael Moore's films.
When they're not ignoring the movie they're lying about it. NBC published a piece by a woman who describes herself as "an abortion access fanatic" which is chock full of lies. She says that Gosnell never compared himself to the infamous, and sadly murdered, late term abortionist Tiller but the transcript of Gosnell's interview with police on the night the police raided his "clinic" clearly shows Gosnell saying just that.
Further the NBC piece blames the pro-life movement for Gosnell's crimes not being detected. Apparently it's not the fault of the officials who decided to not ensure that abortion clinics were inspected that Gosnell wasn't caught.
The reality that the Gosnell movie reveals is two fold; the pro-abortion crowd is willing to put women's lives at risk to ensure continued access to abortion and they're willing to throw the victims of monsters like Gosnell under the bus to ensure that 1,000,000 unborn babies can continue to be killed each year.
There's also a whiff of racism to the left's reaction to the Gosnell case. Most of Gosnell's victims were minorities; one can only wonder if the left's reaction would have been the same if it were white's who had been murdered and white women who had received substandard care.
After all the left has no problem ignoring the fact that thousands of Blacks are shot each year in Democrat run cities like Chicago but we all know that if it were thousands of whites being shot each year in those cities the Democrat mayors of those cities would be taking action.
