Why Trump's interest in Greenland makes sense.

Back in 2017 China was trying to take over Greenland and Iceland seemed ok with it.

China's new imperialism consists of doing huge expensive construction projects in countries which pay for them by borrowing money from China.  When the countries can't pay the loans back China exerts control over the country just like the old colonial powers did.

In 2017 Greenland's prime minster went hat in hand to China to get them to finance massive new airports.  The US intervened, got Denmark to provide funding, in order to keep China from getting control of Greenland.

From a US perspective this is important because Greenland has great mineral wealth but more importantly Chinese military bases in Greenland would give China unprecedented access to key American shipping lanes and to the US in general.

Trump's offer to "buy" Greenland is a more open and honest version of what the prime minister of Greenland was contemplating with China just 2 years ago.

The left is upset because Trump is putting American interests ahead of Chinese interests.  The left likes China because they want to make America like China.  Doubt that? Remember when President Obama said he'd like to be able to rule the way the Chinese tyrants do?
