They discussed many private meetings with Mueller.
By demanding that the details of those statements be released what Democrats are trying to do is inhibit honest conversations between the President and his staff.
We all know that when people are discussing policies things are said that they wouldn't necessarily say in public not because they're dishonest or criminal but because in working towards a solution people often suggest things that turn out to be stupid.
The concept of Executive Privilege means that just as the President can't demand transcripts of Pelosi's conversations with her aides because that would tend to keep them from being honest and open with her so to Congress can't demand the transcripts of Trump's meetings with his aides.
Because Democrats are now saying that Mueller is untrustworthy and that he probably covered up what Trump really did--if that's not what they're saying why would they want the 1,000,000 or so pages of underlying documentation that Mueller generated?--they are asking for the equivalent of Pelosi's private conversations with her staff.
They have no need for that; they're just looking for embarrassing quotes or disputes between Trump and his aides to use to improve their chances of winning in 2020.
Unless they believe that Mueller lied they have no need for any of the underlying materials. Mueller said there was no collusion and Mueller said that he didn't have evidence to convince a jury of obstruction.
Unless Mueller is lying for Trump or an incompetent fool having access to his underlying material won't change anything.
Trump could have declared Executive Privilege and denied Mueller access to the material the Democrats are now demanding but Trump didn't.
Don't let the #FakeNews media confuse you about this; Trump cooperated with the supposedly politically neutral prosecutor but is now refusing to destroy his ability to have free wheeling conversations with his staff by putting them on notice that everything they say could be turned over to Democrats at any time.
