She said:
"There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people's passports," "And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away and it was forced on them.”
What she seems to be saying is that the establishment of the state of Israel was good because Jews had suffered in the Holocaust and she feels good that her people, the Palestinians, involuntarily provided a place for the Jews to go.
Many conservatives are saying that Tlaib was saying that the Palestinians helped the Jews but it's clear from what she wrote that she is really saying that the Palestinians were exploited and persecuted in order to help the Jews.
The problem with that of course is that since she's demanding sympathy for the Palestinians being forced to do so she can't give her people credit for helping the Jews.
Yet she is clearly doing that. Perhaps she was attempting to be sarcastic.
If she didn't have long history of calling for the destruction of Israel this controversy wouldn't have happened.
